Small Town Excitement

Life in small towns always comes at you

In little spurts. Those quick flourishes

Of exhilaration that will last

Only a few seconds are followed

By an eternity of boredom

There’s never anything in between

Either your heart pounds with excitement…

Or you’re taking a nap

The Home of My Youth

Faded and long neglected

Hidden behind all the

Broken dreams of childhood

Once so crowded and loud

With so many voices

All screaming to be heard

You were so full of life

Now just a dying house

With nothing left to give

Seeking Fame

Don’t be deceived

Glory, fame or wealth

Cannot save you from death

Certain sorrow will be cast at your passing

Your family and if you’re lucky

A few good friends

Will morn you

But their grieving will be short-lived

With each turning season

Their memory of you will fade

Soon, no thought of you remains

Just another cold grey stone

In a field of stones

Will mark that you existed

Fade to Black

Is it the beginning or the end?

I suppose no one can ever know

Yet each of us will make the journey

When it comes the time for us to go

We will take one last look behind us

And see our loved ones are looking back

With that last breath we sigh “I love you”

And then we fade slowly into black

Yesterday’s Love

We were the youngest of lovers

Crossing the threshold of desire

Impatient and heated

Souls burning with the fires of youth

Bathing in the sureness of immortality

I shook my fists at the world

Then hid inside you for refuge

Sanctuary from an uncaring world

Now I am ancient

Shadows of crosses dull my eyes

So many years have slid past

Since first we touched each other’s hearts

Our young love still consumes my thoughts

Fills my passions

As if it were but yesterday
