Crochet

Red, orange, yellow, purple, blue and green;

The colors flow smoothly from her fingers

A rainbow of yarn like I’ve never seen

So absorbed in her I stop and linger

With every twist of her agile wrist

I watch intently as the afghan grows

Without looking, she creates every stitch

Then carefully crochets them into rows

The weight of it on her is comforting

Its warmth blocks out the chilly winter air

Still I can’t keep myself from wondering

Will it soon be too much for her to bear?

Changes

I have seen many years;

They have not changed me

I have lived life;

Life has not defeated me

I have seen death;

Death has not altered me

I have known love;

Love has not abandoned me

I have seen darkness;

Darkness has not frightened me

I have felt failure;

Failure has not weakened me

I will sing my songs;

My words will comfort me

Each New Day I Wonder

Each New Day I Wonder

Will this be the last time?

Your warmth draws me awake and

My lips caress your beauty

Each New Day I Wonder

Will this be the last time?

My arms pull you to me as

I whisper I love you

Each New Day I Wonder

Will this be the last time?

That you will comfort me or

Ease my pain with your touch

Each New Day I Wonder

Will this be the last time?

That I will dream of you

The Great Mystery

We are all born into a room filled with many doors

The decisions we make decide which door will open and which will close

Until the end, when we find ourselves standing alone in the dark

With only one door left

Christmas Poems

Christmas Past

On the face of many Christmas’s past

Fond memories still linger true and sound

Cold weather, snow and frost will never last

When the warmth of your friendship does abound

Christmas Present

A mom moves through the silent home

While all her children sleep and dream

Dying embers cast soft shadows

On their gentle sleeping faces

She smiles; it is the life she loves

Christmas Future

She sits alone in the dark

Her tree is unlit and bare

The room is so cold and stark

Only her last breath stirs the air

Her family all far from home

Living their Christmas fare

Across the world they did roam

Leaving no one left to care
