~Miracle of Life…

With a bang
to rival the creation of the universe
Cells growing,
multiplying, forming
molding, shaping,
changing and becoming…
a soul, a purpose, a life, an understanding
Living, surviving,
thriving, hearing,
heart pumping,
feet and hands moving…
Two months down and seven to go
If I can only survive Roe Vs Wade

Sorry Guys…

It was a few days ago
when I had written some words
about how Ozark winter
was really quite absurd

It seems Little Miss Ozark
didn’t like what I had to say
and she decided to throw
a surprise present my way

Now I’m standing in my drive
shoveling two feet of snow
bundled against a wind chill
of more than twenty below

Well I have learned my lesson
I will remember next year
don’t talk bad about winter
until the summer is here

~ Sunday…

I rise up early to breathe the crisp clean air
of winds blowing ‘cross the grass wondrous and fair

Across the valley the mountains rise up high
jagged purple peaks piercing the azure sky

Eagles soar ‘cross the sun looking for a meal
it’s as close to God as any man might feel

Seeing new calves breathing their first taste of spring
on limp legs, to its mother a young foal clings

Out in the grass a meadowlark courts its mate
with a song so sweet that it makes my heart ache

The bugling of elks welcome the morning light
at the foot of the ridge somewhere out of site

Across my front yard nature is at its best
here on my front porch I’d love to sit and rest

But cattle are crying, they need attending
winter was hard so there’s fences need mending

I hoist my coffee in a toast to the hand
that made me a part of his glorious plan

So I’ll take a moment, contemplate and pray
On the ranch, Sunday is just another day

~ A Pioneer’s Prayer…

When frigid winter’s winds roar
out among the lifeless trees
and nature is held captive
inside a merciless freeze

I pray to the God above
I hope he’ll honor my plea
to keep you safe from all harm
and bring you back home to me

Not in Montana Anymore…

My Yak Traks hang unused
not even sure where I put my coat
My snow shovel is covered in cobwebs
the ice melt is buried in a plastic tote

The car’s snow chains are rusty
the emergency supplies have all gone stale
The battery charger is lost somewhere
my snowblower is up for sale

It is winter in the Ozarks
And that’s all I need to say
So far we’ve only had an inch of snow
And that was gone by the end of the day

But it is cold here this morning
There is a layer of ice out on the dirt
So I had to dress for winter
By wearing a long sleeve shirt
